About the coach

30+ years inside the genetic counseling profession.

The story behind the work

The Career Allele was founded by a genetic counselor with more than three decades of experience across clinical practice, academic leadership, and the mentorship of hundreds of early- and mid-career counselors.

Over the course of a 30+ year career, the work has spanned direct patient care, program leadership at academic medical centers; curriculum development for training programs, strategic leadership in industry setting; and mentorship of students and new graduates navigating their first years in practice.

That breadth of experience is the foundation of The Career Coach.  This isn't drawn from generic career development frameworks. It's built from the specific rhythms, pressures, and opportunities of the genetic counseling profession.

The Career Allele exists because the transition from training to practice and from practice to leadership is harder than it needs to be. Not because the people making those transitions aren't capable, but because the profession doesn't always give them the structured support to navigate it with confidence.

The coaching philosophy

Career coaching for genetic counselors should feel different from generic career advice — because the profession is different.

Profession-specific, not generic

Every conversation is grounded in how the genetic counseling job market actually works, what hiring managers in GC settings actually look for, and what the real career paths inside this profession look like.

Structured, not open-ended

Sessions follow a clear arc. You'll leave each one with specific next steps, not just reflection prompts. The work is designed to move you forward.

Honest, not just encouraging

Thirty years of mentorship means knowing when to affirm and when to redirect. You'll get both delivered with care, but without varnish.

Accessible, not gatekept

The New Graduate Rate, payment plans, and (coming soon - need-based scholarship) spots exist because the people who most need this support are often the ones least able to afford it at the moment they need it.

What makes The Career Allele different

01

Built from the inside

This coaching comes from someone who has lived the genetic counseling career arc not someone who coaches across industries and happens to work with a few GCs.

02

All career stages

From students preparing for their first job search to tenured counselors ready to step into leadership. The work is calibrated to where you actually are.

03

Confidential and non-evaluative

This is not supervision. There is no reporting relationship, no evaluation, and no connection to your training program or employer. What you share stays here.

04

Two-tier pricing by design

The Standard and New Graduate rates aren't an afterthought — they're a deliberate commitment to making this support available to counselors at every financial stage of their career.
